Casgate (kæs-geyt)
Casgate is widely regarded as the most picturesque town in Icebeach, spreading out from the shore of the ocean and east by tall pines and the Auran Mountains. Its buildings incorporate carvings of wizards, homunculi, tigers, and smiling djinn.
While you think the enchantment of the town would be dispelled as soon as you feel the cold wind sweeping down from the north, it is not the case. The town is surrounded by large stone walls made from solid slabs of stone, and inside it is magical to be warm and sunny like the Wizard's Homeland The Atheneum.
In addition to fishers, shipbuilders, and shepherds, Casgate is home to miners who harvest gemstones from a cavern complex set into a low hill north and east of the settlement. Because of their efforts to find more gems the Atheneum has set up an embassy here even though it is not the capital of Icebeach.
While creatures from the Underdark or mutants from the glacier might haunt some of the older miners, the younger ones have heeded their warnings and know not to dig too far down or straight over. Whenever such creatures are discovered, the mineshafts are sealed off and the townsfolk wait until a band of sellswords or adventurers can be hired to clear it out.
After the eternal winter the Wizard left, leaving a crater and smoking wreck of a city. The once protective and tropical sky simulating dome that sat over city lay ruin. The remain people are jaded against magic, seeing it as they left to save themselves and not other.
One survivor is an old man who ran a tea shop who organized the survivors into a commune to survive. His name is Tessan.
Demographics
Most of the people who work in Casgate are Human and Elvish, with some Dwarves. There is little poverty in the city but there is a wandering tribe outside of it.
Government
Cascate is governed by a council of elders, known as the Ruby Senate, but rumour has it that they are controlled by The Society of the Burning Snow.
